Municipality of Port Hope

Ideally situated on Lake Ontario, just one hour east of the Greater Toronto Area, the picturesque town of Port Hope boasts more than 270 designated heritage buildings, and a downtown celebrated for being the “best-preserved 19th-century streetscape in Ontario.”  It's also home to attractions like the celebrated Cameco Capitol Arts Centre (Canada's last surviving, fully-restored "atmospheric theatre") and popular events like the All-Canadian Jazz Festival, the ACO House Tour, the larger-than-life "Estival" celebration, and the Float Your Fanny Down the Ganny river race.

But Port Hope stands out for much more than its architecture and its history.  With all the charm and friendliness of a small town, and all the vibrancy and sophistication of a modern community, Port Hope offers a rare and appealing way of life to those who call it home.

Port Hope's outlying rural communities (once known as "Hope Township") also provide a unique living experience — the opportunity to embrace the many charms of the countryside while never being too far from the comforts, entertainments and amenities of town. This thriving community of 16,000 offers its residents an enviable lifestyle, and the best of all possible worlds.

Ganaraska Forest

The Ganaraska Forest is southern Ontario's largest forest. Straddling the Counties of Northumberland, Peterborough, Victoria and the Region of Durham, the Ganaraska Forest offers the best in outdoor recreation.

With hundreds of kilometres of trails, the Ganaraska Forest provides year-round opportunities for a variety of activities. Hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and nature appreciation are popular activities throughout the Forest. Motorized activities such as off-road motorcycle riding, ATVing and snowmobiling are permitted in the West Forest and East Forest only. The Central section of the Forest is maintained as a passive use area.

The new Ganaraska Forest Centre, located in the municipality of Port Hope, opened in the fall of 2009. The main building at the Centre houses common areas, sleeping areas and special areas for staff and administration. The Centre features education and conference facilities, as well as sleeping room for up to 80 people and a commercial-class kitchen.
